Peterborough Power & Sail Squadron Celebrates 50 Years

The setting for the celebrations was Beachwood Lodge on Buckhorn Lake. With nice weather many took advantage of a stroll on the grounds.

Special guest for the weekend was CPS-ECP Chief Commander Harry Cole, top right, accompanied by his wife Marilyn Cole, bottom right. They enjoyed breakfast Saturday morning with Quinte District Commander Elaine Jeffery, bottom left, and her husband Jim Jeffery, top left.

The celebrations would not have been possible without the hard work of Squadron Social Officer Elsie Scott and her committee.

Squadron Commander Gary Ainsworth was the Master of Ceremonies for the evening dinner and presentations.

Several United States Power Squadrons (USPS) District 6 members are now members of Peterborough Squadron. Social Officer Elsie Scott's anniversary committee prepared a special anniversary banner to string across the dining room for the celebrations. At the table are Past Commanders Harold Briggs,
John Gullick, and Rod MacIsaac.

Past Rear Commander and USPS Red Jacket Squadron Educational Officer Chris Tertinek, also a member of Peterborough Squadron, brought congratulations from USPS.

Quinte District Commander Elaine Jeffery addressed the gathering noting the number of Past Commanders who went on to serve as Quinte District Commander. Several were in attendance at the dinner including Past Quinte District Commanders Eric Morton, Jack Whiteside, Roy Edwards, Norm Moffatt,
Larry Urbach, and Catherine McLeod.

Boating Graduates Bev and Joe Paige won the raffle for a free season lock pass donated by the Trent-Severn Waterway. They are looking forward to this year's boating season.
Other sponsors providing prizes for the event included Brian McKinley of Investors Group, Elsie Scott, and Sue Mellow.

The celebratory dinner was followed on Sunday morning May 3, 2009 by the Squadron's 50th Annual General Meeting, at which the Squadron's second female Commander, Susan Mellow, was pledged. Gary Ainsworth became Squadron Past Commander.
