First Aid Kit

A first aid kit is essential!

You can purchase a kit at most hardware, drug or department stores or you can make up your own. Often at Boat Shows, there will be vendors that sell first aid items individually.

Be sure your first aid kit is well equipped for all emergencies. Include the following:

  • regular Band-Aids and bandages
  • Chlortripolon© for bee stings
  • alcohol wipe
  • antibiotic cream
  • Vitamin E cream for sunburns
  • cortisone cream in case of poison ivy
  • Imodium©
  • Tylenol 3© for pain caused by fracture.
  • A small scalpel comes in handy if anyone is accidentally hooked by a fish hook.

If you have alternate medications you use instead of those mentioned in the above list, include them, as well as any current prescriptions that you may need while on your canoe trip.

You may also include other items such as "o" rings, slings, and other accessories for broken bones.

What to do in case of hypothermia.

Be safe and happy canoeing! Canoeing
